LABORATORY
MEDICINE ACCREDITATION
MDS Calgary partnership CLS still overcrowded
- by Donna Korchinski, NetNews Inc.
Calgary
- (November 26) Despite warnings that safety may be compromised
because of overcrowding, Calgary Laboratory Services continues to
operate in its cramped quarters. The College of Physicians and Surgeons
of Alberta has granted full accreditation to the laboratory in spite
of its own detailed documentation of overcrowding and safety issues.
The Calgary-based joint venture claims that it has been searching
for a new facility for more than five years. CLS and the Calgary
Health Region refuse to comment on the details of the progress in
the search for new laboratory quarters.
NetNews has obtained the evaluation report of the College of Physicians
and Surgeons of Alberta on CLS. It outlines the problems associated
with overcrowding within the privatized medical laboratory service
in the Calgary region. NetNews has prepared a story on the
issue.

December,
2000
On a warm fall
day in 2000, concerned citizens gathered in a tiny community hall on the outskirts
of Calgary to organize Survivors of Sour Gas. This report is a series of talks from
people and groups who attended. They include people who feel they have been harmed
by oil and gas activity. Others represent groups who worry about future harm to their
lives because of oil and gas activity in their neighbourhoods. The report also includes
interviews with representatives of the oil industry and Alberta regulators.
